'I was a SM2C (Signalman). Stationed on Bridge with Capt. Temple & whatever Admiral was incharge. Usally the air boss was there too when we had flight quarters.'
"I was aboard her when they were flying th FR1 FIREBALLS off the ship. They were quite the plane. They did a lot of cracking up. We lost a lot of planes. The Jets were good for what they were designed for. The prop engine did its job. All in all it was a good plane. We had a an enjoyable trip to Hong Kong via Manila in Philippines (I had been there before Invasions of Leyte Gulf & Liingayen Gulf Second Battle of Philippines). I was aboard LST 213 at the time. Later transfered toUSS Bairoko. We had a competition between ships on way to Hong Kong & we(Bairoko) won.We were with the Siboney & the Puget Sound & 4 destroyers. (we had to have destroyers follow us when we had flight quarters) The Capt. ( Harry B. Temple) passed out a box of cigars to each of the Signalmen . He later offered me First Class to sign over for the Bikini A Bomb test later on in 46. "
